All the People Who Challenged for Fandom Belts for the First Time in 2023
Winning a belt is the ultimate goal for a trivia player. However, the first step is getting there. Several people try and never make it, but it’s nice to see the people that have been working hard for their shot finally get it, whether it worked out or not. Here are all the people who challenged for a Fandom Belt for the first time in 2023.
Antonio Chavez
Antonio has slowly become one of the oldest veterans in Fandom. He’s been around for awhile, but has always hovered in that range of “just short of a contender match”. In the past he has been the step people take to reach contention, and don’t get me wrong it’s no easy step. The guy is no slouch and has consistently been in the top ten highest accuracy players of all time. Oddly enough he finally found a team that suits him in Galac-Deez Nuts. After a surprisingly good rookie season, the Nuts upset Young Justice to play for and quite nearly win the vacant belts.
Kaiser Huang
Speaking of high accuracies, Kaiser is on the presepis of wearing gold, in singles or teams. However, pairing with an experienced Teams Champion like Robert Castner allowed him to reach that one much sooner. Rule of Two became one of very few teams to reach a title match undefeated, and upsetting Wookiee Mistake to do it was no easy feat. Given that it was only their first trek out as a team, Rule of Two may be Castner’s third teams belt, and could be Kaiser’s first.
Amaru Moses
After taking a break from Fandom, Ru came back hungry. He left at a pretty mid tier even record, and came back as a force to be reckoned with. Starting the season at 2-2 he was able to play in the very first picture that promised someone with an even record a shot at the title. He defeated veterans like Boatman, Chavez and Maringoni to make it to the main stage. It didn’t go his way, but given that his bounce back was to make it to the tournament finals it’s safe to say he will be there again.
Javi Madan
Javi was a classic rookie of the year. As a new player he had upset after upset, only to follow it up with a slightly disappointing singles year. However, as part of Young Justice, one of only two teams to beat Duel of the Fates, it’s safe to say it was obvious his time would come. After defeating Rule of Two, they were chosen by Jake for a chance at the title. However, Duel of the Fates remembered their first encounter, and they were not happy. Still, Javi had his first taste of the big stage and is now ready for more.
Cameron Holzmann
Holzmann’s title path is the same as Javi’s only with miles more backstory. Javi was a second year player, while Cameron Holzmann has basically been around the entire time. He is widely considered as one of the best all around players in Multiplex, but has never found gold in any leagues. In Fandom, he had never even gotten the chance. He came close with two other teams. Ascendant was upset by Necronomicon, and Lights, Cameron, Action nearly made it to a contender match if it weren’t for Bounty Hunter’s Anonymous’ legendary comeback. However, with Young Justice he has finally taken another step.
Abel de Leeuw
Abel was the only first time challenger to actually come away with a victory. It’s likely due to the fact that 2023 was the year Abel challenged for both belts for the first time. It’s not always talked about, but experience in championship matches is invaluable. It’s part of why stories like Dominic Rizzi and DUM-Es are so shocking. Abel was able to get a warm up match when Galac-Deez Nuts challenged for the vacant teams titles. This prepared him for a monumental challenge at the end of the summer. Not only did he win the Triples Crown tournament, but he slayed the giant that was Brittani Tapley, someone who most believed was unbeatable. It’s safe to say Abel’s first challenges were a success.
